Agencies' Consulting Services Contract Obligations for FY87 and FY88 Gao ID: GGD-90-72FS May 7, 1990

Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO reviewed federal agencies' obligations for consulting services contracts for fiscal years (FY) 1987, 1988, and 1989.

GAO found that: (1) total obligations for consulting services in FY 1987 and 1988 were $4.1 billion and $4.9 billion, respectively; (2) 1989 contract data were unavailable because the Federal Procurement Data System (FPDS) had to restructure its operations due to budget limitations; (3) agencies did not report individual contract actions for $25,000 or less to FPDS; and (4) there was no asssurance that federal agencies classified contract actions with correct product or service contract codes.
