IRM and Project EAGLE Gao ID: IMTEC-93-7R December 9, 1992

Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO discussed the Department of Justice's implementation of congressional recommendations to improve automated data processing (ADP) management and procurement. GAO noted that: (1) Justice has stopped ordering additional personal computers used as Enhanced Automation for the Government Legal Environment (EAGLE) workstations; (2) Justice is placing new orders for other equipment from the EAGLE contractor; (3) Justice has initiated a new price competition for EAGLE-compatible equipment; (4) Justice did not hold debarment hearings for the EAGLE contract awardee; (5) Justice has not developed the functional specifications needed for a departmental case management system; (6) the General Services Administration has strengthened its oversight of Justice's ADP procurement activities; and (7) the Justice Inspector General did not plan to increase its audit coverage for procurement and systems security practices.
