NASA's Standard Parts Program--Are the Objectives Being Accomplished?

Gao ID: PSAD-81-18 January 8, 1981

A review of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) progress in implementing the Standard Parts Program and its efforts to consolidate procurements of electronic parts is presented. Interviews and examinations of records and information from questionnaires were examined as a basis for the review.

While there has been notable progress recently in planning for and implementing the program, improvements are needed in (1) monitoring and evaluating the program, (2) justifying the use of nonstandard parts, and (3) developing and implementing policies and procedures to help assure that maximum benefits are achieved from consolidated procurements of electronic parts.
