Allegations Concerning a National Science Foundation Employee Using Government Funds for Personal Travel
Gao ID: PAD-83-8 December 16, 1982GAO examined allegations that were raised concerning a former National Science Foundation (NSF) employee's use of Government funds for personal travel.
GAO found that top NSF management was aware that the travel had occurred and concluded that the trips were essential. GAO deferred to the administrative determination of the head of the agency. In response to the implication that the individual had resigned because of the NSF investigation, NSF stated that the individual in question had planned to work at NSF for 2 years and then return to his previous employment. Accordingly, GAO did not believe that the resignation was connected to the NSF investigation.
