NRC's Annual Performance Plan for Fiscal Year 1999 Gao ID: RCED-98-195R May 27, 1998

Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO reviewed the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC) annual performance plan for fiscal year (FY) 1999, focusing on: (1) the extent to which the plan provides a clear picture of intended performance across the agency; (2) whether the plan discusses the strategies and the resources the agency will use to achieve its performance goals; and (3) whether the plan provides confidence that the agency's performance information will be credible.

GAO noted that: (1) NRC's performance plan for FY 1999 partially meets the criteria set forth in the Government Performance and Results Act and related guidance; (2) the plan could provide a clearer picture of intended performance across the agency and better discuss the strategies and resources the agency will use to achieve its performance goals; and (3) the performance plan does not provide confidence that the agency's performance information will be credible.
