Implementation of P.L. 95-382--Civil Service Retirement Credit for Japanese-Americans

Gao ID: FPCD-79-39 March 28, 1979

Under a law enacted on September 22, 1978, civil service retirement credit became available to Japanese-Americans who were confined in U.S. internment camps during World War II and later became Federal employees. The law required the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to ensure that all eligible Japanese-Americans be informed of their legal rights. OPM is responsible for assisting eligible employees and annuitants in preparing the documentation necessary to receive the retirement credit. A review was conducted of the efforts being made by OPM to reach eligible retirees and survivors, and it appeared that the law was being adequately implemented.
