Export Finance

The Small Business Administration's Role in Meeting Small Business Needs Gao ID: T-GGD-95-235 September 7, 1995

This testimony discusses the Small Business Administration's (SBA) efforts to meet the export finance needs of smaller businesses while adjusting its operations to the possibility of reduced federal funding. GAO addresses concerns raised by exporters and the Trade Promotion and Coordinating Committee about the limited export financing available to small- and medium-sized business and how SBA has responded to this issue. GAO focuses on SBA's Export Working Capital Program, highlighting the past use of the program, key improvements made to the program, projected current use of the program, and options to help minimize the negative effect that a reduction in the credit subsidy appropriation has had on the program's goal of expanding exports.
