Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point Systems Gao ID: OGC-96-31 July 29, 1996

Pursuant to a legislative requirement, GAO reviewed the Food Safety and Inspection Service's (FSIS) new rule on the meat and poultry industries' establishment of hazard analysis and critical control point systems in their plants. GAO found that: (1) the rule would establish requirements for reducing pathogens on meat and poultry products and providing a framework for modernizing the meat and poultry inspection system; and (2) FSIS complied with applicable requirements in promulgating the rule.
