Review of FY 1982 Presidential and Vice-Presidential Certified Expenditures

Certain categories of fiscal year 1982 presidential and vice-presidential expenditures were examined to ensure that the funds were used only for authorized purposes.

GAO found that the following amounts were authorized for the categories examined: (1) $3,650,020 for the operation and maintenance of the executive residence at the White House, including the official entertainment of the President; (2) $300,000 for presidential travel and transportation expenses; (3) $60,000 for vice-presidential official entertainment expenses; and (4) $95,000 for vice-presidential travel and transportation expenses. GAO verified that the expenses examined related to the purposes authorized by Public Law 95-570.
