Actions Taken on GAO Recommendations Concerning Civilian Agency Aircraft Management
Gao ID: NSIAD-84-148 August 1, 1984In response to a congressional request, GAO reported on the actions taken by various agencies on recommendations it had made to improve civilian agency aircraft management.
The agencies agreed with most of the recommendations and either have implemented many of them or are planning to do so soon. GAO analyzed the actions taken or planned and believes that these actions, if all are implemented, address the problems noted in the reports. GAO did not obtain data on governmentwide totals on the purchase prices, operating costs, or the use of agency aircraft because: (1) the data could not be obtained without a great deal of time and work; and (2) the General Services Administration aircraft management information system, which will be operational in the near future, should be able to provide most of this data more efficiently. The GAO review of Postal Service aircraft is still in process.
